F.A.Q.

What is the ESSG?

The Everton Stakeholder Steering Group (ESSG) is an independent group of Everton fans from a range of Everton stakeholder groups, associations and societies.

The ESSG is an interim group and will cease to exist upon the establishment of the Fan Advisory Board.

Please see the Who We Are page

How was the ESSG formed?

The ESSG came together in June 2021 in the wake of the European Super League proposals, subsequent Government Fan Led Review into Football Governance, and following a consultation exercise led by the Everton Fans' Forum in April 2021.

What are the aims of the ESSG?

The ESSG's goals are to develop proposals for effective and meaningful fan representation at Board-level for Everton Football Club (EFC).

What were the ESSG's recommendations?

The ESSG recommends that Everton Football Club should have Fan Directors on its Board of Directors, who are accountable to and elected by Everton supporters. We also recommend the creation of a Fan Advisory Board (FAB) representing the diversity of the fanbase and to ensure that the interests of Everton fans are considered in strategic decision making.

The ESSG recommends that both the Fan Directors and FAB be in place by the start of the 2022/23 season.

The full recommendations can be accessed here.

How did the ESSG reach its conclusions?

The ESSG sought and considered the views of Evertonians drawn from a wide range of sources, including e-mail submissions to the EFC Fans’ Forum, a series of stakeholder workshops with fan group representatives, independent online forums and the results of a survey undertaken by Everton Football Club.

In all, this engagement embraced the views of more than 10,000 Evertonians.

Minutes of ESSG meetings can be found on the ESSG Meeting page

How will the recommendations be taken forward?

The ESSG submitted its proposals to EFC on 8 December 2021 and met with the EFC CEO and senior Club officials on 12 December 2021.

The ESSG and Club has since confirmed their commitment to establish a Fan Advisory Board before the end of the 2021/22 season and to ensure that there will be fan representation at Board level at Everton.

The ESSG will now be developing further detail on next steps, including how best to determine the composition of the FAB and an independent election process for its membership. This will be shared with the fanbase as part of a further consultation in the coming weeks.

The FAB will develop further detail about how fan representation at Board level will come into effect, as one of its first priorities.
